Plan a systematic withdrawal plan (SWP): see how long your corpus lasts and how much is left after regular monthly withdrawals.
An SWP withdraws a fixed amount from a mutual fund every month while the rest stays invested. It's a common way to draw a regular income in retirement.
If your withdrawals are lower than what the corpus earns, it keeps growing; if higher, it slowly runs down. Raising withdrawals each year for inflation makes it run down faster.
Each withdrawal is a redemption. Only the gains part is taxed, as short- or long-term capital gains depending on how long the units were held.
Many planners use 3–4% of the starting corpus a year, raised for inflation, for a 30-year retirement.
